Located at 104 S. Muhlenberg Street in the heart of the downtown area, the Woodstock Museum of Shenandoah County opened its doors to the public in the late 1960s as a non-profit entity dedicated to preserving and showcasing the local traditions and history of the area. Comprised of two 18th-century historical buildings, this museum is open seasonally, with guided tours available by appointment.
Thanks to its convenient location in the town’s center, the Woodstock Museum can be easily included in a walking tour. Some of the artifacts you can find here include relics of the Civil War, handcrafted local pottery and textiles, old advertisements, and a collection of historical photographs.

2. Shenandoah Valley Cultural Heritage Museum

Boasting a series of permanent exhibits showcasing the history of the Shenandoah Valley and housed in a historical building that dates back to the late 19th century, the Shenandoah Valley Cultural Heritage Museum is another important local landmark you should visit while traveling around the region. This place is located at 214 S Main Street in the nearby town of Edinburg and a little over five miles southwest of downtown Woodstock.
The Shenandoah Valley Cultural Heritage Museum is open Monday through Saturday between 9:30 am and 5:30 pm, and Sundays from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The permanent exhibits here showcase historical artifacts and everyday items from the region’s first inhabitants, including a display of old glassware-making equipment, military uniforms, and a farm wagon.

3. Shenandoah Museum of Contemporary Art

As one of the most important cultural centers in the Shenandoah Valley, the Shenandoah Museum of Contemporary Art showcases some of the best local and international pieces of contemporary art, and regularly hosts events that draw professional artists from all over the country. Located at 103 S Main Street in the Woodstock city center, this museum is open to the public Friday through Sunday between 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
